Tome Topple Round 5

Another round of Tome Topple! I have done this readathon before (my tag is here) but the last time I did it, I didn’t actually manage to finish one tome (I read other stuff) but I did manage to start Outlander which had been on my TBR for a while. Tome Topple Readathon Wrap Up

Tome Topple Readathon is about reading books over 500 pages during a two week period. My TBR is here, consisting of several books that I’ve owned for a while but haven’t gotten around to them just yet, mostly because I was intimidated by their sheer size.

So I did fairly terribly in this readathon because I didn’t manage to finish one tome at all! I read books but I didn’t start a tome properly until the 15th August and that was OutlanderHowever, Outlander is a book that I’ve owned for a while and has been on my Goodreads TBR for longer, as well as being a hyped book I want to see what the fuss was about. It started off quite slowly but I’m liking it so far, especially the amount of detail that goes into the description.

In terms of finishing books, I didn’t do so well, but it was the kick to get me to start a book that has been on my TBR for a while, so a partial success!

Outlander (Outlander, #1)

Did you take part in Tome Topple? Did you actually finish a tome? Let me know in the comments!

Tome Topple Readathon

Another round of Tome Topple! This readathon focuses on big books, so books over 500 pages. It lasts for two weeks and, as the intro video says, it focuses more on page number than number of books read. This round takes place 4th August – 17th August so be prepared for me to get the dates confused. However, I have a long haul flight in this time (20 hours on a plane in economy, help me) so I should get at least one book done. Along with the twelve hour train journey.

Challenges

1. Read more than 1 tome
2. Read a graphic novel (still over 500 pages!)
3. Read a tome that is part of a series
4. Buddy read a tome
5. Read an adult novel

Tome Topple Wrap Up

The TBR for this readathon (and introductory video) is here.

How I Did

So I got the dates a little mixed up for this readathon. I was thinking it started on Monday and then finished on a Sunday. I don’t know why, especially considering how I double checked the dates a few days before it started. So I started last Monday and I’m about halfway through my second book, A Conjuring of Light.

Good news it that I finished one book! Three Daughters by Consuelo Saah Baehr is an own voices book about three generations of Palestinian Christian women and it was over 700 pages so it was long. I did enjoy it, I liked the characters and the similarities between each generation as well as how it was obvious that you can love each other because you’re family but that doesn’t mean you understand each other. I don’t want to spoil too much but there was a lot of common ground between the three generations, including the fact that I got frustrated with them and wanted to shake them at times.

Conjuring of Light – well, I like it better than the second book already. Lila is actually doing stuff that isn’t selfish thrillseeking so I feel more kindly towards her. Kell and Lila still have no chemistry though and no amount of kissing can convince me otherwise. Rhy and Alucard are the sweetest though and I adore their scenes together.

Challenges

1. Read more than 1 tome – does the quarter of A Conjuring of Light count?
2. Read a graphic novel
3. Read a tome that’s part of a series – same question about A Conjuring of Light
4. Buddy read a tome (use goodreads and twitter to find buddies!)
5. Read an adult novel

So I didn’t definitely complete more than one challenge but I did read something which has been on my TBR for a while and finish it. How did everyone else do?

Now I have a few days to finish A Conjuring of Light so I can start the next readathon I have planned which is Readathon of Kings. I still haven’t found a book by a Dutch author that is easily available to me (either on my Kindle or in my library) so I might have to miss that challenge.

Tome Topple Readathon

A readathon I haven’t seen before is Tome Topple which is a two week long readathon (7th April – 20th April) where the focus is on big books. The only qualification of books is that a single work has to be over 500 pages. I’ve got a few of those waiting in the wings.

Challenges

1. Read more than 1 tome
2. Read a graphic novel
3. Read a tome that’s part of a series
4. Buddy read a tome (use goodreads and twitter to find buddies!)
5. Read an adult novel

Since I have several books which would fit the criteria on my Kindle, it was hard to narrow it down! I won’t be able to complete all the challenges, but I think #1, #3 and #5 should be done if I manage to finish my TBR.

The Goodreads group is here if anyone wants to know anything more.
